The Nutcracker Opens at BAM
Tchaikovsky’s universally adored The Nutcracker is alive and cracking at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), where last night the American Ballet Theatre performed the season debut, with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky and scenery/costumes by Richard Hudson (The Lion King).
Along with yours truly, budding supermodel Arizona Muse, interior-design guru Athena Calderone, Cynthia Rowley, and Christian Siriano took in the enchanting Russian fairy tale, with that timeless score better-known to people around the world than even Titanic, possibly.
Men in tights, sugar plum fairies, a toy-making godfather, Czar-like dreaminess, nutcracker jokes, mischievous mice, little ones everywhere. Yeah, it’s Christmastime in New York.
