Hooked: Comme des Garçons x Cambridge Satchel Company

Nothing says egghead like toting around a leather book bag, or satchel. Rei Kawakubo knows this and has designed a line of them—not the first time either—in collaboration with the Cambridge Satchel Company, a kitchen start-up hatched by the Deane family just three years ago to help cover school fees. And if there’s a word synonymous with smart, it’s Cambridge. That’s how Comme des Garçons x Cambridge Satchel Company was born. For fall, the tidy bags are available in two sizes and come in brown, black or white matte leather or in metallic gold or silver.

If that isn’t smart enough for you, how’s this for a bit of Wikipedia wisdom? “Following coverage by international fashion magazines and a collaboration with the fashion brand Comme des Garçons, production of the satchels increased from three homemade items a week to 1,500 in 2011, and turnover increased from ₤15,000 to an estimated ₤8 million in 2011.”

Prices start at £200, available at Dover Street Market
