Noritaka Tatehana’s Heelless Wonders Go on Show
They say the higher the heel, the closer to heaven. If true, teetering in Japanese shoe designer Noritaka Tatehana’s gravity-defying, heelless wonders might well turn you into a deity. That’s pretty much what happened when Lady Gaga famously sported a pair on Japanese TV nearly two years ago, helping propel the pop star to style icon status and the young designer’s career in her wake.
Tatehana’s made-to-order collection is rarely seen outside of Tokyo, but thanks to a special exhibition in partnership with Comme des Garçons, you can now behold the little works of art up close and personal. The three-part exhibition, shown at Comme stores in Paris, London and Tokyo, features the designer’s latest red collection, latest black collection and archived pieces, respectively.
If you’re planning to check it out, we’d suggest doing so asap as the shows will run “from two weeks to a few months, under fluid condition,” according to the publicist, making an elusive figure all the more god-like.
