Diptyque Turns 50 and Celebrates With a Threeway
Turning 50 is a big deal. It’s usually accompanied by a surprise party, a bottle of posh whisky, and, if you’re lucky, a geriatric bender going well past 9 pm, followed by the distinct possibility of getting luckier. To this latter point, you could say Diptyque scored with a threeway. To celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, the Parisian fragrance purveyor gave three of its closest perfumers olfactory carte blanche to create whatever limited-edition goodie they wished.
For her part, Olivia Giacobetti went with a scented candle, Curiosités ($80). Inspired by Diptyque’s rather mystical heritage, she infused it with cypress, dried angelica and clove leaves. The nose Fabrice Pellegrin, meanwhile, combined the aphrodisiac ambroxan with an unlikely dash of cumin to create his sensual, woody eau de toilette, Eau Mage ($100). Rounding out the trio is Eau Particulière ($135) by Olivier Pescheux. A veritable melting pot of notes, ranging from mint and patchouli to Turkish rose and orris butter, it’s a festive spray for everyone and every occasion. Like the morning after, perhaps?
