For Delfina Delettrez, Love Is In the Hair
Fairy tales have been written about it and musicals have been dedicated to it. We’re talking about hair, of course, which now serves as muse to Delfina Delettrez. During Paris Fashion Week, the jewelry designer and Fendi progeny presented her spring collection, Love Is In the Hair, on enormous hair sculptures that took their cues from great coifs of history. The wiggy creations were a little like Lady Bunny impersonating Lady Gaga impersonating Marie Antionette. You get the idea.
In these beehives and bouffants sat hairpins adorned with Delletrez’s trademark painted-enamel eyes, lips and bumblebees. Necklaces featured semi-precious stones ranging from amethyst to citrine, while leather and metal-studded collars had dangling from them a transparent resin heart to hold keepsakes. And, for the first time, Delettrez designed a purse, in gold and silver, that connects to a ring with a chain, rounding out another surreal, exquisitely eerie collection that has become the designer’s signature.
