Louis Vuitton Is Doubly Exposed

This month Louis Vuitton debuts its latest fashion film, Double Exposure, in which artists, filmmakers, and performers are invited to sit for a portrait using the 19th-century collodion wet plate process. The subjects, the latest of which is Thandie Newton (following Sam Taylor-Wood), are asked to hold their most treasured possessions for twelve seconds, the time it takes to make them look ghostly and gorgeous using the antiquated photographic technique.

While it’s charming to observe the different subjects clutching their dearest handbags and baubles, the diversity of the objects selected, including a painting by Newton’s daughter, reveals that the good folks at Louis Vuitton know that personal connections matters as much as luxury—almost…
