Finally, a Model Scandal that Doesn’t Involve Weight

The phrase “getting carded” just took on new meaning—at least for models. After seasons of debate about hiring of beanpoles under 16, now comes sterner words from higher up. CFDA CEO Steven Kolb and president Diane von Furstenberg (who’s been adamant about the issue for some time, even after an admitted oopsie last season when she recruited 15-year-old Hailey Clauson), sent out a letter recommending that models show a valid ID before stepping foot on the runway. The letter states DVF’s own show will be doing requiring proof of age and encouraged others to do the same, also noting that all the top model agencies have pledged not to supply underage models.

We have a feeling Canal Street will be seeing brisk fake-ID business in the coming week, as every lanky Eastern European girl in the city suddenly becomes 16. Though we’re pretty sure they won’t have a problem getting into after-parties.
