While Republicans had a little get-together on TV last night, a far more exclusive party was had by President Obama and Manhattan’s most powerful Dems, aka the media and entertainment elite, in a West Village basement.
This wasn’t, of course, your average beer-fueled basement party. After all, the $35,800-a-head fundraising dinner benefitting the Obama Victory Fund took place in the posh home of Harvey Weinstein and his wife Georgina Chapman. On hosting duty was none other than Anna Wintour, who threw a similar shindig last year in her own Sullivan Street abode.
Obama remarked on the “good-looking crowd” as guests—including Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, Vera Wang, Jimmy Fallon, Alicia Keys, Aerin Lauder—converged and confabbed about the troubled economy, our seemingly broken democracy and the upcoming 2012 election. The whole affair lasted about two hours, netting over $2 million. Let the games begin.
