A Missoni Moment
Like one of their trademark zigzags, Missoni is all over the place right now, even before the big fall collection in Milan this Sunday…
First, a couple of weeks ago, the newly nonagenarian Ottavio Missoni released his autobiography, A Life on the Wool Thread (Rizzoli). In it, the family patriarch reflects on his early days as an Olympic athlete andhis celebrated career in fashion, as well as darker moments, like the massacre in post-war Dalmatia (present-day Croatia) that led to his forced exile, which is said to have had a profound impact on him. Hence the book’s release on what is not only his 90th birthday, but also the day of remembrance for the victims of the massacre.
On a much lighter, open-toed note, Missoni has also announced two spring collaborations, both in the footwear department. First, they’ve merged their zigzags with flip flops—zig flops?—in their first collection for Havaianas, combining the colors of the Italian and Brazilian flags. At the same time comes the new and third limited-edition collection with Converse, once again using near-microscopic space-dyed knits instead of mere prints, but this time on men’s and women’s Chuck Taylor All Star high-tops.
