Raf’s Way, or the Highway

Raf Simons seems to be following in the footsteps of his great minimalist predecessors Jil Sander and Helmut Lang, and not just in his predilection for rectilinear precision. WWD reports that on the eve of his show, Raf announced his sudden split from Italy’s Futurenet Group, which holds licensing rights over the Simons label (including two slick flagships in Japan). Though he flirts with Wall Street tailoring, Raf apparently isn’t a corporate kind of guy, but walking away from his backers might also entail leaving behind his namesake label. In typical fashion, mum was the word after a fantastic fall collection, but the future of the label seems to be uncertain for the time being. Just to be safe, we’d advise stocking up on some Raf classics while he’s still in the building.
