Givenchy
A power outage delayed the Givenchy show for more than an hour, causing a minor fashion drama. But it was well worth the wait, as Riccardo Tisci (who we’re told remained cool as a concombre backstage) sent out his most accomplished men’s collection to date.
Leaving behind the sinister overtones of his previous show, the designer concentrated on what he does best, streamlined tailoring mixed with edgy, quirky sportswear. Not to mention an eclectic cast, which this time included Stephen Thompson, the albino model who stars in the spring campaign.
What Tisci added this season was a lighter palette of beiges and browns, along with a newfound humor. Indeed, a funny Rottweiler theme ran throughout the collection, appearing on printed shorts, shirts, sweaters, and American-style sweatshirts. Any thoughts of Michael Vick were banished when cute little dog ears came out atop perky hats.
Fur (not dog fur) was treated as lightheartedly, as all-over strappy backpacks and kooky eyeglasses. The horse-bit belts and platform sneakers adorned with bling and chains, are also sure to be fall hits.
So forget the electrical snafu. The power was in the clothes.
