Fresh off his collaboration with Adam Kimmel (you’ll recall the ghoulish masks at the designer’s casino-inspired fall presentation in Paris?) and creating the album cover for Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, George Condo isn’t slowing down. Why should he? The painter, with his comically deranged depictions of insanity, has been making art-goers feel uncomfortable for 30 years. Why stop now? And so, beginning January 26, the New Museum will present George Condo: Mental States, the first major U.S. survey of the artist (and contemporary of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring). Over eighty paintings and sculptures from 1982 to the present will go on view in the massive exhibit, promising something for everyone’s state of mind.
