Let the Fast-Fashion Games Begin
The dust hasn’t even settled from the Lanvin ♥ H&M fury before the next designer collaborations are announced—and they’re doozies. First off, to celebrate their first Milan store, the Gap has enlisted none other than Valentino to whip up a special capsule collection. Masterminded by the house’s current design duo, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, the collection is all bows and frothy ruffles, lady-like elegance mixed with American utilitarianism. A few army parkas have “fist fight” written all over them. We’re not sure what the royally tanned Valentino himself would think of all this, but it’s bound to connect with a younger clientele when it hits shops on November 27. Sadly for many of us, this is a European exclusive, available only at Gap in Milan, Colette in Paris, and Dover Street Market in London.
But the States will get its own share of lower-priced luxury next year. Karl Lagerfeld has signed up to produce a women’s and men’s collection for Macy’s—yes Macy’s—that will be unveiled in over 250 stores and online next September. The collaboration is part of a designer series meant to rejuvenate the store, and hopefully create a valid excuse to brave 34th Street. We hope this means Karl will make an appearance in next year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, or at least a giant balloon in his likeness.
