Fran Lebowitz—our favorite bespoke-suit-wearing, Law & Order-appearing, low-profile-keeping author, humorist and social contrarian—is getting the HBO treatment with a documentary premiering November 22, 10 pm EST. Directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter, Public Speaking blends monologues (apparently taken at Monkey Bar, from the looks of it) and archival footage in the jazzy style of Scorsese’s early documentaries Italian American and American Boy.

Why Lebowitz was given photoshopped red lipstick in this promotional poster we’ll never understand (we suspect there was a battle over this—did we mention she’s a social contrarian?), but we do know she can always be counted on for a shiggle or two, like in this clip…
