Karl Lagerfeld to Design an Island

It was inevitable that the sovereign of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, would handcraft his own dominion. So it should come as little surprise that he’s been enlisted by Oppenheim architecture firm and the KOR hotel group to help design a manmade island off the coast of Dubai—called, fittingly, Isla Moda.

Like some unexpected twist in a Zoolander sequel, the desert island promises a fashion utopia, designed down to the last blade of grass. Reports Vogue.uk, the private resort will include luxury hotels, residential villas, spas, lounges and of course, shopping. If preliminary sketches are any indication, this will be a dream come true for the terminally fashionable, a cross between a catchy Madonna song and Jurassic Park, but with models instead of dinosaurs. The project will be completed in 2014, and we can’t help but wonder if Karl is crafting his own palatial retreat for his eventual retirement from Chanel.
