Gaultier to Design Kinky Furniture

Jean Paul Gaultier may be hanging up his reins at Hermès with a beautiful swan song of equestrian perversions, but don’t expect the designer to sit still for long. Shortly after the collection, the king of the cone-bra announced plans for his next project: a furniture collection with French firm Roche Bobois, bowing early next year. No images yet (although it’s assumed the line will look a lot like his one-off for Elle Décoration and Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, seen here), but Gaultier seems to be approaching this project like any other, through le sexe. And if anyone can put the spark back into a loveseat, it’s Gaultier. As he described his version in a recent interview, “A sectional sofa with sex appeal: mattress-like modules that incorporate my signature tattoo prints and sailor stripes, as well as a portrait of lovers who are about to kiss. This sofa brings the bedroom into any room in your house.” Oh la la, we’re glad to know Gaultier won’t be sitting on his laurels, but if we’re lucky, we will. We assume rubber covers are optional.
