Vivienne Westwood

“Choose well and have fun” has been Vivienne Westwood’s mantra for years. Or something like that. And judging from her spring collection, the dame clearly practices what she preaches. A nipped-in green leopard-print suit set the vibrant mood, while striped, cropped pants gave the impression of jaunty men’s pajamas. Pleated, folded and draped skirts, Victorian-style, were worn with heavily embroidered vests or chain-bearing corsets. Standouts included coats and dresses cleverly draped in a red and cream plaid that felt modern.

In all, the show was signature Westwood—clever and colorful, with plenty of ideas to play with. Even as a post-script in the show notes read, “P.S. I am not depressed. But we need to stop climate change,” when the designer untied a model’s mask and took her bow, it was obvious she’s having fun. Why not? She deserves it.
