Viktor & Rolf

It’s pretty safe to say most people go to a Viktor & Rolf show for the quirk, something that they can talk about afterwards with people who were also there. Last season, it was the designers dressing Kristen McMenamy in everything other models took off. This season, it was cuffs and collars. Okay, not so much of a talking point, but there’s plenty of fun do be had with shirting. You can layer them, exaggerate them, asymmetric them, chiffon them, strip them, stretch them…you get the idea. It was cute.

And then things got puffy. Satin puff with stretch jersey inserts, to be precise. In black and black, and black and mint. To be honest, I didn’t get it. Then the same shapes came out in white satin and lace. To be honest, I got it. Others maybe didn’t, but it was for brides—pre, post and desperate-to-be—and marriage goes beyond trends, right? Finally came fantastical shirt wedding creations, beautifully layered gowns with trailing backs and beaded collars that made you want to scream, “I do!”
