Shoe Switcheroo at Lanvin

If any designer is consistently capable of flattering a woman’s body, lord knows it’s Alber Elbaz. Bypassing spring’s midi-length mandate at Lanvin today, Elbaz sent out a killer collection apt to let those of us lacking Gisele-like limbs heave a sigh of relief. Above-the-knee dresses and skirts were streamlined and sporty, body-con and vaguely Hellenic. Many were also paired with flats, which, as it turns out, was the reason for the show running over an hour late. Apparently, backstage, Alber didn’t like the pained looks on his mannequins’ faces in vertiginous heels, hence the decision to scrap them. With the memory of Burberry’s finale model eating it on the runway still fresh in our minds, we’d say the wait was probably worth it.
