Provincetown Has Jungle Fever

Each summer tens of thousands of people descend on the sleepy village of Provincetown for its particularly campy version of Carnival. The costumes are always a hoot, and with Jungle Fever as this year’s theme, that meant a conga line of leopard-print loincloths, bras fashioned out of foliage, strategically placed bananas, and giant afros that seemed more disco than Tarzan. (Of course, not everyone will observe a dress code, and for some reason this year saw a preponderance of older gents in Little Bo Peep dresses. Go figure.) As for myself, I grabbed a captain’s hat from my vintage shop, the S.S. Cherry, and went as the skipper of the Jungle Cruise. With camera in tow, and spitting out beads Bruce Vilanch chucked at me, I set about capturing the natives running amok…
