Italian Vogue’s Franca Sozzani Will Guest-Judge America’s Next Top Model

Apparently, ANTM’s high-fashion make-over was no idle threat—and if you think this would only entail Tyra in designer jumpsuits and a French-quoting André Leon Talley in a taffeta cape, think again. For its fifteenth cycle, the show is pulling out all the stops, not only confirming its partnership with style bible Italian Vogue (the winner will land two coveted in-book editorials), but raking in a slew of top-notch guest judges. Most of the “notable” panelists will be replaced by the likes of Diane von Furstenberg, Patrick Demarchelier, Margherita Missoni and Karolina Kurkova. Now that’s landing on top!

The impressive fashion arsenal would have been unthinkable a few years ago, but it seems to be a sign of the times, with the fashion famous looking to cash in on the exposure. (What, no Fashion’s Night Out tie-in?) And there’s the kicker: Franca Sozzani, Italian Vogue’s editor-in-chief herself, will also appear, probably to ensure a quality choice in the final round. For those still scratching their heads over the unlikely pairing, we’ll remind you that Italian Vogue’s Black Issue, featuring meaty spreads of Tyra and Toccara, remains its top selling issue—sold out and reprinted countless times. We’ll also remind you we predicted such a coup back in May. So while we’ll miss the old slapstick days and Survivor-like challenges, it won’t stop us from catching a few minutes when the show premieres September 8.
