As we’re all well aware by now, Marc Jacobs ain’t shy about showing off his gym-bunny bod. But lest we think his nearly nude appearance in those Bang adverts is totally vanity-driven, he sets the record straight. “I’m not Tom Ford in terms of the grooming and the knowledge of clothes and the precision and perfection of getting dressed,” Jacobs tells Calvin Klein in September’s Harper’s Bazaar. “There’s nothing I can wear in this ad that isn’t going to look ridiculous.” Granted, after undergoing a strict exercise and nutrition regimen following a serious bout of ulcerative colitis, Jacobs did begin getting off on his buff new physique in non-editorial contexts. “When guys started looking at me and asking me out on dates, I felt way better about myself,” he explains. “So it was hard to keep my clothes on, actually.”
