Naomi Campbell Heads to Court

As if anticipating a not-amused glance or two, Naomi Campbell rocked an evil eye pendant during her testimony today at Charles Taylor’s war crimes trial. Clad in cream-colored Alaïa, a coiffed Campbell let it be known she’d rather be elsewhere, thankyouverymuch. “I just want to get this over with and get on with my life, this is a big inconvenience for me,” she told the court. Campbell feigned ignorance of both Taylor (before she read up on him and his allegedly murderous ways online), as well as, um, Liberia itself. Asked why she failed to question the men who woke her to gift the pouch of “small, dirty-looking stones,” Campbell replied, “I get gifts given to me all the time, at all hours of the night. Sometimes without notes.” If the stones failed to rouse suspicion, it’s simply because Campbell’s accustomed to a different class of baubles. “I’m used to seeing diamonds shiny, and in a box,” she explained.
