Oscar de la Renta Cruise 2011

A quick perusal of the crowd at Oscar de la Renta’s Resort show left us wondering if the designer had ditched dowagers for downtowners this go round. Indeed, given the median age of de la Renta’s clientele, the number of young’uns in attendance, including bloggers, was notable. Models came out with leather-covered iPad clutches in tow, and the collection was livestreamed—a first for the brand—suggesting the company is looking to expand its purview, or at least placate some of the harried editors unable to show.

Those who made it included de la Renta stalwart Anna Wintour, glimpsed having a front row tête à tête with Desirée Rogers. Perhaps another Obama editorial is in the works? If so, the former press secretary and editrix-in-chief will have their pick of frocks to choose from. At a staggering 55 looks, the collection ran the gamut from Coco-esque ribbon-embroidered jackets and skirts topped off with jaunty straw boaters to brightly hued silk organza and chiffon ruffled dresses. Standouts included a sweetheart-bodiced, point d’esprit draped gown and belled-below-the-waist black grommeted white dress.
