Karl Lagerfeld Gets An Award
Karl Lagerfeld now has a new trinket to add to his jewelry collection: the pink-gold enameled, diamond-set Legion of Honor medal bestowed upon him yesterday by Nicolas Sarkozy. Created in the Chanel fine jewelry ateliers with the Paris Mint, the one-of-a-kind medal was presented to the Kaiser as a surprise, celebrating his fashionable good deeds in service of the French government. Joining the ranks of John Galliano, David Lynch and, um, Barbra Streisand, Lagerfeld was awarded third-tier Commander status. Though below Yves Saint Laurent’s Grand Officier rank, at least Lagerfeld is now on par with fellow artiste Céline Dion, given the honor by the “bling bling” prez back in ’08.
