YSL Cruise 2011
For its latest showing, YSL dispensed with over-the-top antics, beachside theatrics and runway pyrotechnics as it quietly cruised into New York to present its cruise collection in the solemn halls of the French Consulate on Central Park East. This is Pilati’s YSL, after all, the height of monastic restraint, and that’s how we like it. The site provided the perfect backdrop for Pilati’s “Parisian girl in America” story, which was a colorful hybrid of Mary Tyler Moore and Madeleine. It was also an uncharacteristically nostalgic offering from Pilati, who revisited the cult of YSL and its venerable archives, particularly the prints and graphic shapes of the seventies. Behold the silhouette of things to come.
