Margiela Exhibit Heads to London
In a retrospective giving a whole new meaning to “summer whites,” Maison Martin Margiela ’20’: The Exhibition will bow June 3 at London’s Somerset House. Following stints in Antwerp and Munich, the retrospective will feature both old (upscaled versions of the Barbie and G.I. Joe outfits from fall ’94) and new (the Artisanal collection’s blonde “wig” jacket from spring ’10). Beyond the walls of tabi boots and racks of trompe l’oeil photo-printed nylon dresses, show-goers will find oversized polystyrene cut-outs of labcoated Maison team members after purchasing tickets from a whitewashed courtyard caravan. Should curatorial plans to wrap the trees lining the House’s embankment entrance en blanc, à la Christo, prove a go, expect a total white-out.
