As if we needed another reason to love social democracies, Norway has just debuted a $22 million, state-of-the-art luxury prison that could very well give The Standard in a New York a run for its money. The slick modernist compound is tricked out with luxury cells with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, as well as an expansive gourmet kitchen. If that wasn’t enough, it also doubles as an art gallery, featuring a whopping $1.5 million in contemporary art work, including some dashing Banksy-style murals. And to boot, the windows don’t even have bars, to allow for more pleasing natural light—no word if there’s an in house spa. Cooler and more stylish than most upscale resorts, we don’t know if we should make reservations or start planning a Norwegian crime spree.
