Grace Versus Gaga
Of all the performers Lady Gaga’s been accused of knocking off—Madonna, Dale Bozzio, Róisín Murphy—let it be known Grace Jones is not the one to be played. In an interview with the Guardian, the singer/actress/model (who arrived four hours late to dish on drugs, oysters and Merv Griffin) initially said she paid the copycatter no mind. When pressed, Jones then fessed to having noticed the Lady’s penchant for biting her style—and that’s when the claws came out. Asked whether she considered Gaga talented, Jones, who infamously slapped a UK TV host for turning away from her on camera, shot back: “I wouldn’t go see her…I’ve seen some things she’s worn that I’ve worn, and that does kind of piss me off.” And forget about a future collab. “Yes, she did [ask to collaborate], but I said no. I’d just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually,” she said. Consider yourself warned, Gaga.
