Rufus Wainwright CD Launch
Who doesn’t love Louise Brooks? The showgirl, Twenties’ silent-film legend, star of 1929’s Pandora’s Box (which included the first screen portrayal of a lesbian), model for Liza Minnelli in Cabaret and the owner of the first of two iconic bobs of the 20th century is now the inspiration for Rufus Wainwright’s latest CD, his first in three years. For the launch and preview of All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu (releasing April 20), we squeezed into Gramercy Park’s Rose Bar with the likes of Susan Sarandon, Drew Barrymore, Michael Kors and Alan Cumming. One touching song Rufus sang was a tribute to his sister Martha (sweet!), while another was a dig at crazy journalist who dared cross him with a bad review (even sweeter!).
