Dancing Shoes

Here’s something to be happy about, if you’re Imelda Marcos. It’s no secret the former First Lady of the Philippines has long held an even more dubious claim to fame, that of shoe hoarder. So while David Byrne and Fatboy Slim were probably never interested in her 3000+ pairs, the duo’s dance-operatic ode to the 80-year-old disgraced diva contains nary a mention of footwear. Martha Wainwright, Róisín Murphy and Cyndi Lauper are among the various artists on the compilation box set, interpreting Marcos’ rags-to-riches tale by mixing Studio 54-style disco beats (the dictator’s wife had a discotheque in her New York townhouse) with actual Marcos-isms. Apparently the album’s title, Here Lies Love, is also what she reportedly wants on her gravestone, a wish that should immediately conjure thoughts of contributor Santigold’s track: Please Don’t.
