Paris Men’s Week: Jean Paul Gaultier

Apparently Gaultier is in a fighting mood. For fall, he sent out boxing shorts, welterweight outfits, muscle prints and loads of leather. There were some good ideas, but overall the show felt too, well… showy, with every imaginable pugilist motif thrown in: a boxing ring, gloves, towel boys, bloody make-up. The only thing missing was a hologram of Mohammed Ali himself, dancing like a butterfly and stinging like a bee. The styling and casting of ghetto boys, or look-alikes, also seemed antiquated. Still, we welcome the deviation from dandies and sissy boys of seasons past.
