“Am I Gonna Make It?” by Nite Funk—the collaboration between lo-fi chanteuse Nite Jewel and eighties electro-boogie revivalist Dãm Funk—could well have soundtracked my harrowing New Year’s Eve spent in L.A. (It would have been a beautiful transition into 2010, with laughter and physical stunts, were it not for a near overdose by an artist friend, who shall remain nameless). With its club-hangover beats and lingering synth backing track, Ms. Nite and Mr. Funk have crafted an ultra-late-night-AM-radio-love-jam, the likes of which evade current pop. Dodging Southland creeps while trying to get home without a car just sounds better with Nite Funk.
