Sole of the Party
“I have no sole,” joked Terence Koh at the launch party for the Chuck Taylor All-Stars he designed for Converse. Never one to resist a double-entendre, he was referring to the minimalist, arch-less, all-white sneakers that, at the party atop Cooper Union art school, were donned by near-nude skinny models painting on canvases—except they had no paint. Hence, shoes as blank (and stripped-down) canvas. But these aren’t just shoes for art’s sake. As part of the Converse 1HUND(RED) Artist series, 10% of the net price goes to help fight AIDS in Africa. Now that’s soul. $150, available November 21 at Opening Ceremony, 35 Howard Street, 212-219-2688.
