The Beatles x Comme des Garçons

Money can’t buy you love, but it can sure get you a piece from The Beatles x Comme des Garçons collaboration, the latest from that queen of conceptualism and doyenne of diversification, Rei Kawakubo. The much-anticipated, if perplexing (the green apple print is based on the owner of The Beatles’ music, Apple Corps) collection was recently unveiled in Tokyo with a sneak peek at the modest initial offering of ten travel bags, five tees and four shirts ($115 – $860).

Rei told WWD she was cautious of over-producting, lest this turn into an assortment of unnecessary items you’d find in a souvenir shop. Um, we’re not sure how necessary or un-souvenir-y an embossed PVC crescent bag is, but it’s our favorite from the bunch, mixing Comme whimsy with a touch of Sergeant Pepper’s psychedelia.

Launching later this month in yet another Tokyo concept store (apparently there’s no end to those either), the line will also be treated to a proper debut at Dover Street Market, where it will also be carried, in addition to select retailers worldwide—which do not include souvenir shops, although how cool would that be?
