The Beautiful Purple

Purple fragrances—as in types of flowers used and anything that’s slightly lurid, excessively ornate and exalted in its royalty—are best when based on anachronistic euphemisms such as “courtesan.” Which is why we love Parfums DelRae’s Mythique, a new fragrance inspired by Diane de Poitiers, the mistress of King Henri II. When worn, however, the dark iris flirts like Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger. Either way, the juice will keep you up at night. $135 at Barneys New York.
