Rising South London misfits The XX took their distinctly brooding slow jam, Islands, to the television stage recently on Later Live With Jools Holland. Heavy breathing, drum-machine tapping and a his-and-hers interplay of sultry vocals decorate the standout track from their self-titled EP, and through it we are taught a new lesson: how to turn a legendary TV soundstage into your own private bedroom.
