FIAC the Recession

Despite the lull in the art market, seen in a somewhat sleepy Frieze Art Fair in London, buzz is building around this year’s FIAC Art Fair (October 22-25). Seems the French don’t believe in worldwide recessions, or just don’t notice during their boozy, three-hour lunches. Housed in the decadent Grand Palais in Paris, the fair boasts the usual blue-chippers, but expect a shake-up from Emmanuel Perrotin (the French Jeffrey Deitch) and his street-savvy stable. Art collective KOLKOZ will show a top-secret, large-scale installation, and word has it they’ll produce a limited run of furniture to be sold exclusively at Palais de Tokyo. Meanwhile, Deitch Projects painter Brad Kahlhamer will debut new work, as well as his line of T-shirts for Gap’s Project Red (fellow painter Kristin Baker also has a design). And let’s not forget about the star-studded opening soirée, awash with art-hungry French celebs, including Dior muse Marion Cotillard. Pas mal!
