Hooked: Abakus

Spring 2010 is starting to look like reform school for wild girls gone good. After his saccharine collection, even Marc Jacobs quipped that he’s tired of seeing girls in black leather and studs (hmm, we wonder who he was referring too). But we say flip the bird at the goody-goodies and enjoy one last bout of badness with a mean piece from Abakus. The brainchild of Marsha Chun-Matsubara (who, despite the impressive set of letters, hails from Minnesota), the line boasts exotic skins and heavy hardware galore, pieced together into dangerous-looking assemblages.

A favorite of W’s Camilla Nickerson, Matsubara’s signature cuffs can already be spotted binding a toned Bruce Willis into submission for Steven Klein’s latest walk through the wild side. And her latest collection, The Dark Side of Pale, pioneers a few naughty classics for fall. Our faves include the classic python ($550) and python and pearl ($685), all made to order.
