Story Telling

I just had the pleasure of hanging out with the fantastic milliner Stephen Jones at his shop on Great Queens Street in London. Before we strolled over to the Showstudio party at Somerset House, along with the lovely V&A curator Oriole Cullen, we spent a few minutes trying on hat after spiffy hat and giggling like schoolgirls. Ever the raconteur, Stephen regaled me with funny stories, like how Boy George was so entertaining and popular in prison that he had to be separated from the other inmates. On a more fashiony level, he told me all about the hats he made for Rei Kawakubo’s new “Comme des Garçons Comme des Garçons” capsule collection showing in Paris next month, based on the clothes she actually wears from her closet. But of course Stephen works with a lot of epic designers, so here’s the big news, presented as a blindy because I swore every which way I wouldn’t reveal who it is: After 25 years without ever having a solo show, unheard of in the retrospective-hungry museum world, which designer will finally get his due, and in a big way, with a Paris show in 2013?
