Zero + Maria Cornejo

Whoever said fashion forgets? Once upon a time Chilean designer Maria Cornejo flew under the radar. But in what must have seemed like trekking to Chile itself, a hardy fashion set ventured far west in midtown (nearly to the Hudson River!) to be the first to see her spring collection for Zero.

What they got was a battle of the front-row teen bloggers, with Tavi in one corner and Julia Frakes from Paper in another. Both rocked long, layered looks, but couldn’t top Cornejo’s flowy cocoon dresses. Lest we play favorites, a few men’s pieces featured cocoon sleeves, too.

Cornejo also retooled the super-low drop-crotch pant, which doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon—except lower. She prettied them up, pairing them with tailored little leather jackets and draped watercolor-printed asymmetrical tops. There was also a cross-back dress on model Hanne Gaby Odiele that elicited a coo from Julia. With Tavi in custom Rodarte, could a collaboration between Zero and Julia be far off?
