Salvatore Ferragamo, resort '13

Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2013

Thanks to a donation big enough to sponsor a Leonardo da Vinci exhibit, Salvatore Ferragamo became the first Italian label to show at the Louvre. For resort '13, designer Massimiliano Giornetti lived up to the grand colonnades with a focus on what he calls “slow fashion,” carefully constructed pieces made from the finest materials.

Intricate details among the mostly crème-colored collection included loose weaves that were transformed into macramé-looking skirts, dresses, and jackets. Silhouettes, meanwhile, leaned toward the mod, with short little shifts paired with go-go boots made from exotic skins. Fringed and laced suede recalled Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C., adding cavegirl sex appeal to the Renaissance references.
