Queen Elizabeth isn't the only one celebrating 60 years of unsurpassed reign. Fred Perry turns 60 this year and the label has big plans to fete the feat.
To start, a select group of designers, musicians and sports figures will be sent a reissue of the original 1952 Fred Perry shirt—reproduced from imagery and illustrations discovered in the archives—and asked to customize it with a birthday message. The results will be displayed at blow-out anniversary events before being auctioned for charity.
Furthermore, Grammy-winning film director and musician Don Letts—founder of Big Audio Dynamite, the band he formed with Mick Jones, post-Clash—has been recruited to produce six 15-minute documentaries that give historical context to the long arc of Fred Perry style. The series—which will screen first on UK's Channel 4 and then on Fredperry.com—promises to provide unique insight into 60 years of British music and subculture.
